The location

Nyang Nyang beach is located more towards the south west tip of the peninsula, near Uluwatu. It is one of the larger stretches of untouched beach you will find in Bali. And I can say, it is absolutely breathtaking.

Getting to Nyang Nyang Beach

To get to Nyang Nyang beach, you can just take the amazing Jl Raya Uluwatu Pecatu road, till you reach the exit to the Jl. Pantai Nyang Nyang beach road.

When I got to the Nyang Nyang beach entrance, there was no one collecting any entrance fee. But I did pass a gate. So, I am not sure if it is always free entrance or if someone was just lazy with collecting the local neighborhood contributions that day.

Now you can drive all the way down to the beach. But the road down is a zig zag road that is very bumpy and very steep. It can only be traversed by foot or by motor bike.

If you don’t feel comfortable to drive yourself up and down, there are locals who offer to drive you for a small fee.

The beachfront itself

Once you get down to the beachfront, you will be greeted by a beautiful golden beach and blue ocean water.

One side of the beach gets cut of by a bunch of rocks in the sand…

and the cliffside itself. Which to be honest, also looks breathtaking if observed from afar.

Now if you turn around and head in the other direction, you will find that Nyang Nyang beach is a very long beach. It seems to go on as far as the eye can see.

You are able to walk quite far along the beach. Crossing some stretches of rocks in the sand every now and then. But it seems like it goes on endlessly. So, there is plenty of space to pick a nice and quiet spot if you want. As on average, there also aren’t that many people around. This beach can still be considered a bit of a hidden gem.

The nice thing in that regard is that this beach is not that well developed yet. Unlike Melasti and Pandawa beach, which are a little further along the coast. They probably started in the same way as Nyang Nyang beach did. But here there still is this forest filled cliff side, with a long stretch of flat grassland running parallel to the beach.

The only real development you will come across on the beach, is this little bar at the beach entrance. Where you will be able to get a nice cold drink and a snack.

And besides that, you might come across a few smaller or improvised stalls with a few drinks further up the beach.

So, due to the underdevelopment, this beach might not be the most family friendly beach. It might also be best to visit it in the morning, or later in the afternoon. As you might not be able to find a lot of shade on the beachfront itself during the day. And also, don’t forget to bring your own food and drinks just in case.

Landmarks

There aren’t that many landmarks to admire at Nyang Nyang beach. Except for of course the beauty of the beach itself.

But there is one peculiar thing you can find at Nyang Nyang beach. And that is this abandoned passenger airplane standing on the top of the cliff.

It is accessible for tourists to take pictures if you want. But it is a peculiar item to find in such a place. However it is not the only airplane you can find stranded in a strange place in Bali. Just so you know.

And also from up in the skies, you can clearly see the characteristic steep road you need to take, to get down to the beach.

What to do

As mentioned before, Nyang Nyang beach isn’t that developed yet. Which in my opinion is also one of its greatest charms. So in general there are just a few things you can do:

  • Chill at the beach: First and foremost you can of course chill at the long stretch of beach. There is plenty of space to find your own private spot. So just relax near the ocean water, and soak up the sun all day.
  • Visit the abandoned airplane: As mentioned before, there is one distinctly peculiar landmark to see on top of the cliffs. Which is the abandoned airplane. It is open for tourists to visit and take some pictures.

And that is Nyang Nyang beach.
