The location

Melasti beach is also located at the southern side of the Peninsula. It lies right next to Green Bowl beach. Although Melasti beach is a lot grander in scale, and it is probably the busiest beach I visited. And it is also the best maintained beach. And you will notice this the moment you arrive at the entrance road.

Getting into Melasti beach

When you reach the entrance road to Melasti beach, you will immediately notice that this place is going to be something different. The road looks a lot better than all the roads anywhere else in the area. It is wider, the sidewalk next to it is in order, and all the grass is neatly cut around it.

Driving down this road will get you to the ticket booth. Where the entrance price for one foreigner on a motorbike is 12k IDR (10k IDR per person and 2k IDR for motorbike parking).

From there you will continue the road down the cliffside. Where you are able to overlook Melasti beach from the look out at the top.

As you continue your drive down to the beach, it again becomes quite apparent that this place is setup as a well-maintained bathing resort. With a bit of a luxury vibe too it. Everything seems well maintained, with even a huge parking space for cars and busses.

And once you reach the bottom, you will be greeted by a black traditional Balinese entrance gate.

Welcoming you into the beach area of Melasti Beach.

The beachfront itself

The beach area itself is quite large. With amazing gold colored sand, and turquoise crystal-clear water everywhere.

This beach is more a luxury beach. It is one of the trendiest beaches I have seen. At the entrance side of the beach, you will find many beach clubs and restaurants along the coast. In contrast to other beaches. Where you normally find more local shops and warungs. Although you are still able to find these further into the beach.

You can even find a beached pirate ship under construction as a tourist attraction near the entrance of the beach clubs.

Another nice thing is, that you can also find all kinds of public accessible amenities at this beach. Like toilets, showers and changing rooms. And they are also all well maintained.

If you head towards the other side of the beach (the western side), you have more of a long stretch of sand. Where a lot of people can just chill out and enjoy the weather all day.

That side of the beach does get cut off by some rocks. But you are able to pass them and reach Karma beach. Which is more of a private beach for the Karma resort.

All in all, Melasti beach looks absolutely amazing. And it wouldn’t be any trouble to spend your whole day here.

Landmarks

There are a few characteristic items to behold when visiting Melasti beach. First and foremost when entering the area, you need to have a look at the breathtaking view from the look-out point on top of the cliffs. It is right next to the large Pantai Melasti Ungasan sign on the cliffs.

And maybe not really a landmark, but the road leading down to the beach, is really amazing for Bali standards.

And also a bit nifty with some swan statues on the side of the road:

And the entrance gate mentioned before, also makes for a good photo spot. Especially with the cliffside and the Melasti sign in the back.

On the beachfront itself the most remarkable landmarks are probably the trendy beach clubs. All with their own huge pools overlooking the ocean. With the most noticeable beach clubs being Tropical Temptation (previously known as Cattamaran), Minoo and Palmilla, With more clubs being in development.

And right in front of the Tropical Temptation, and Minoo beach club, there is the beached pirate ship being constructed.

And there is also a theatre on the eastern tip of the beach. Where local performances like the Kecak dance are performed.

What to do

There are plenty of things to do at Pandawa beach. As it is one of the more developed and cleanest beaches.

  • Chill at the beach: First and foremost you can of course chill at the long stretch of beach. There are plenty of vendors who rent out a beach bed and an umbrella. You can just relax near the ocean water and soak up the sun all day. There is also plenty of space for some more privacy. As this is one of the largest beaches you can find.
  • Visit a beach club & chill at their ocean view pool: If some more luxury is your thing, you can go and visit any of the beachfront beach clubs. Like the Tropical Temptation (previously known as Cattamaran), Minoo or Palmilla..
  • Enjoy some local cuisine: There are plenty of local warungs to be found along the beachfront. You will be able to enjoy some delicious local cuisine at any one of them.
  • Enjoy the view from the cliff lookout: One thing you shouldn’t miss, is the amazing view you have over Melasti beach and the ocean from the lookout point on top of the cliffs.
  • Have a look at the pirate ship: Although still under construction, you are able to have a look at the beached pirate ship they are building on the beach.
  • Take a selfie at the entrance gate: The unmistakable black traditional entrance gate, makes for a nice picture with the limestone cliffside and Melasti beach sign in the back.

And that is Melasti beach.
